The third phase of the EU MEPS European Directive comes into effect as of January 2017

Through our distributor ABB, we have learned about the entry into force of the third phase of the EU MEPS European Directive starting next January 2017. Given the importance of this information, we have considered it appropriate to make it known to all our clients.

The application of these new regulations will require taking note of the minimum efficiency by power range in motors as of Sunday, January 1, 2017.

This means that all motors purchased as of the aforementioned date with the CE marking for installation and use throughout the European Community must strictly comply with all the requirements of the third phase of directive EC640/2009.

The EU MEPS European Directive has a major influence on the industrial sector, hence its relevance. Furthermore, the main development is found in the third phase. Specifically, it states that motors from 0.75 to 375kW (inclusive) must comply with the IE3 efficiency level or, alternatively, with the IE2 efficiency level if they are operated solely by means of a frequency converter.
