Industrial Belts
When we want to transfer power from one shaft to another, we use power transmission devices such as belts, chains, and gears. Industrial belts are designed to transmit that power between the shafts of conveyor mechanisms.
It’s important to clarify that belts are used for motors and/or industrial machinery.
Belts are flexible elements used to transmit power between shafts located at relatively long distances.
Transmission belts are a type of mechanical transmission based on the connection of two or more pulleys, which are subjected to a rotational movement through a continuous belt. It wraps around the pulleys, exerting frictional force to supply energy from the driving pulley.
Transmission belts primarily function based on frictional forces, which differentiates them from other flexible means of mechanical transmission, such as transmission chains.
MAIN CHARACTERISTICS OF BELTS
- They can connect widely separated shafts
- They are quiet transmission elements that require little maintenance and are easily replaceable
- They transmit motion through belt-pulley friction. To ensure this friction, belts must be properly tensioned on the pulleys
- They isolate the shaft from possible shocks and vibrations that may occur
- They establish a relatively constant transmission ratio between the shafts
- They have high efficiency
- They function as a mechanical fuse, protecting against possible overloads during operation

Types of industrial belts
V-BELTS
V-belts are a variety within the family of transmission belts. They have inclined sides designed to fit into the grooves of pulleys. They have a characteristic shape with a cross-section that allows them to fit securely into the pulley grooves and transmit power as tension increases. V-belts are the most commonly used type of transmission belt due to their excellent torque transmission capabilities.
V-belts are used for power transmission in many industrial applications. They are easy to install, cost-effective, available in a wide range of sizes, and their profile range covers both light-duty and heavy-duty applications. Their unique shape allows them to securely fit into pulleys without the risk of lateral displacement or the belt twisting.
V-belts transmit power from a motor to pulleys to drive various components, including compressors, fans, water pumps, rollers, etc. They are also used in light drilling machines, lathes, manufacturing applications, or machine tools.
Timing belts
Timing belts, also known as synchronous belts, are used for linear conveying and through synchronized movements. They are very useful when precision is required and can be used in delicate applications, machinery requiring synchronization, conveyor lines, among others.
Timing belts are used in power transmission systems where control of motion, speed, and timing is essential. They provide positive power without application difficulties and offer many advantages over traditional gears.
Their material provides better performance, resistance to stress and shock loads, flexibility, longitudinal stability, and reduces electricity consumption.
ROYSE offers two types of timing belts:
- Rubber timing belts: They have a longer service life, emit less noise due to optimized tooth shape, have limited oil resistance, and are ideal for driving machines. They have a temperature resistance range of -30ºC to +100ºC.
- Polyurethane timing belts: These belts are resistant to lateral forces, ensuring safe guidance of the timing belt. Their main use is for precise material flow in cyclic operation, separation, and positioning. This type of belt has better resistance to chemicals and oil.
Ribbed belts
This type of belt combines the flexibility of a flat belt with the great performance of a V-belt. The parallel running grooves are made from a low-wear rubber mixture.
The wear-free, fiber-reinforced rubber mixture ensures quiet operation, heat and oil resistance and long service life.
Among the main features of these straps are:
- Extraordinary dynamic power transmission
- Low vibration and noise level
- Resists impact loads and specific overloads
- Possibility of high belt speeds
