What is industrial lubrication?

Industrial lubrication is a maintenance operation that reduces friction and wear in industrial equipment and machinery. Typically, industrial lubrication is applied to surfaces that undergo regular motion.

By ensuring proper industrial lubrication, the wear of components can be reduced, frictional heat can be controlled, and the equipment is protected from corrosion and contamination.

Oily or greasy substances are used to apply to equipment parts such as gears or bearings. The industrial lubricant acts as an intermediate layer between two surfaces, enabling smooth and efficient movement. It serves as a preventative agent against corrosion, provides sealing properties, and helps retain and expel contaminants in mechanical equipment.

The advantages of applying good lubrication include:

• Energy efficiency: Using lubricants with suitable viscosity reduces friction, minimizes wear, and maximizes machine performance, resulting in reduced energy consumption.
• Protection against contaminants: Lubricants create a protective film on the material’s surface, forming a barrier between the internal component and external environmental conditions.
• Heat reduction and control: Lubrication reduces temperature on contact surfaces by minimizing friction. In this case, the heat generated is absorbed by the lubricant and carried away as it flows through the cooling system.
• Corrosion prevention: Lubricants’ coating prevents the possibility of oxidation or corrosion.
