What is an industrial pneumatic system?
When we talk about pneumatics, many questions may arise about what the term really refers to. As a distributor of pneumatic systems for industry, ROYSE explains it below.
A pneumatic system is one that uses gas—generally compressed air—to transmit power to a mechanical device. When a liquid is used instead of gas, it is referred to as a “hydraulic system”.
Industrial pneumatics refers to a technological field focused on the study and application of pressurized gas, meaning the pressure is kept constant.
In general, a pneumatic system uses an air compressor to reduce the volume of air, thereby increasing gas pressure. The pressurized gas is distributed through pneumatic hoses and controlled by valves on its way to the actuator.
The air supply must be filtered and constantly monitored to keep the system operating efficiently. At the same time, the different components must function correctly.
Industrial pneumatic control, or a pneumatic control system, refers to a mechanical device or a series of devices that use compressed air to perform a specific task.
What components does an industrial pneumatic system need?
The essential elements of an industrial pneumatic system are virtually universal despite the wide variety available on the market. Among the basic components are:
- Compressor: The pump that compresses the air, raises it to a higher pressure, and delivers it to the pneumatic system.
- Check valve: A one-way valve that allows pressurized air into the pneumatic system and prevents backflow and pressure loss in the compressor when it stops.
- Accumulator: Stores compressed air, preventing overpressure and easing the compressor’s duty cycle.
- Directional valve: Controls the flow of pressurized air from the source to the selected port. Some valves allow free exhaust from the unselected port. These valves can be actuated manually or electrically.
- Actuator: Its function is to convert the energy stored in compressed air into mechanical motion. Today, alternative tools include rotary actuators, etc.
ROYSE, distributors of pneumatic systems for industry
ROYSE’s main objective as a distributor of pneumatic systems for industry is to always offer its customers the best service and the highest quality. That is why ROYSE relies on leading brands such as FESTO. As drivers of automation and technical training, they strive to make the working world more productive, simpler, and more sustainable.
Industrial pneumatics and FESTO valves
For an industrial pneumatic system to operate properly, valve quality must be excellent. Valves enable the intake and exhaust of pressurized air, as well as its control.
The main function of a directional control valve is to change, open, or block the direction of flow of a medium in a hydraulic or pneumatic system. For this, compressed air or a hydraulic fluid is typically used as the working fluid. Therefore, the valve is responsible for releasing, changing, or blocking the cross-sections within the valve for the liquid or gas (fluid).
Which valves does FESTO offer us? Among many others, we find the following:
VFOE valve: Lightweight and cost-effective, it is ideal for standard applications. Key highlights include its versatility, easy installation and commissioning, and best of all, it is available worldwide!
VS valves: The robust valve par excellence. Variability, modernity, robustness, and long-lasting quality—anything else? Yes. It stands up to harsh industrial environments thanks to its large connection fittings, offers easy storage, and comes at a low cost.
VG valve: A true all-rounder. It stands out for its compact size, always easy to handle, and high flow rate. Its many functions include pneumatic and electrical. Perfect for all applications where price is an important factor.
