Why secure a bearing with LOCTITE?

Por qué fijar un rodamiento con LOCTITE

Why secure a bearing with LOCTITE. The idea of securing smooth cylindrical elements in their housing, as is the case with bearings, emerged more than 50 years ago, and since then, these types of products have been applied in countless industrial sectors across the globe. The objective is to increase the retention, and therefore the resistance to disassembly, of these elements in their housings, even allowing for the recovery of worn elements that can be given a second life, which represents significant savings while maintaining assembly safety.

How do LOCTITE bearing retainers work?

Now that you know why it’s better to secure a bearing with LOCTITE, we’ll explain how they work.

This range of adhesives is part of the LOCTITE anaerobic curing adhesive group and therefore requires, for optimal performance, joints where we have two fitted METAL surfaces and an overlap area where an air-free space is achieved (oxygen inhibits the hardening of these products). The assembly of bearings perfectly meets these requirements: absence of air and metal-to-metal contact.

What is the function of LOCTITE RETAINER?

Once the retainer is applied to the parts, its function is to fill the surface roughness of the materials, ensuring 100% contact between the two surfaces.

The diagram below shows how the joint between the bearing surface and its housing actually looks, with stress points, and how a LOCTITE RETAINER is able to fill the air gaps left between both parts. This allows the entire surface to participate in maintaining the joint.

RETAINERS harden under anaerobic conditions, securing both parts together and providing an additional sealing effect for that joint.

Does the same product secure and seal?

Yes, it does. It SEALS the contact area between the surfaces against moisture access, thus preventing environmental corrosion, allowing for more controlled disassembly if necessary. It SECURES the two joined faces, thus preventing micromovements between the parts that cause what is known as fretting corrosion between metals.

Can I use a RETAINER with any assembly method?

LOCTITE RETAINERS can be used in slip fit and interference fit assemblies, press fit or shrink fit. The following image shows the gain in strength when assemblies are performed. In these, the use of a LOCTITE RETAINER is combined with a mechanical fastening system. It is only necessary to select the most suitable product from the RETAINER portfolio. We can help you.
